Wilson F. Cramer, of Blandon, passed away on November 19, 2015 in his home at the age of 95. He was the husband of Emily M. Cramer, who passed away October 7, 2015. They were married December 3, 1950. Born in Blandon on July 27, 1920, he was the son of the late Frederick and Minnie (Stufflet) Cramer. In addition to his son, Don, he is survived by his sisters and brothers-in law, Lorena Eddinger, Rocco and Virginia Santilli, Richard and Melva Wise. Also surviving are nephews and nieces, Terry Eddinger and his wife Nelda, Roxanne Wise, Sandra Turczynski, and Samuel Cramer and his wife Connie. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald.
Wilson was a 1938 graduate of Ontelaunee Vocational School and then entered the apprentice program at Textile Machine Works. In 1944 he entered the Army to serve his country during WWII. During his tour in Germany, he was captured and held prisoner for several days. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in June 1946, he resumed working at TMW (Rockwell International) for 36 years, as a machinist, foreman, and supervisor.
He was a long-time member of Maidencreek Church, where he enjoyed worshipping faithfully until he was unable due to his health. In his earlier years he served on the church council and taught an adult Sunday School class.
Wilson was a charter member of the Blandon Lions Club and served as the club president in 1957-58. He served as Deputy District Governor in 1968-69 and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Human Services. He was the chairman of the Maier’s Grove committee for over 30 years and had the main pavilion named in his honor. In the 1960s he chaired the committee to build the East Penn Medical Center, and in 1975 he received the Maidencreek Outstanding Citizen of the Year award, presented by the Lions Club.
In 1961 Wilson helped to organize and incorporate the Blandon Community Ambulance Association. He then volunteered for many years as an emergency provider, board member, and secretary.
He was a member of the Blandon Senior Citizens, sat on the board of directors of the Berks County Blind Association and the Maidencreek Township Water Authority, and in the 1950’s served on the Fleetwood School Board.
When he was able, he enjoyed working in Don’s yard and at Maier’s Grove, and in general, serving his community in many ways. Most recently at home he enjoyed putting puzzles together and going for short drives with Don and his significant other, Judy Keller.
Services will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Maidencreek Cemetery, Blandon. Family and friends will be received from 9:30 to 11:30 in the funeral home.
