Obituary for Ervin D. Steinly Sr.

Ervin D.  Steinly Sr.
Ervin D. Steinly, Sr., 90, died Saturday, October 24, 2015 at home on his farm in Upper Bern Twp. where he resided since 1955. His wife, Bernadean Mae (LaValley) Steinly died June 7, 2001.
Born February 15, 1925 in Pocahontas, PA, he was a son of the late Frank L. and Ruby P. (Compton) Steinly. Ervin was preceded in death by sisters: Doris, Freda Swauger, Beulah Schrock, Doretha June Lohr, Lucille Wildenmann, Eva Keller, and Janice Franco; step-mother: Clara; step-brother: Harold Mankamyer; and grandsons: Lloyd E. Deppen, III and Dyllan Adam. He is survived by brothers: Ray, Frostburg, Maryland; John William, Columbus, Ohio; Glenn, Southington, Ohio; and Donald, St. Augustine, Florida.
Ervin is also survived by sons: Ervin, Jr., husband of Rebecca (Kauffman); Kenneth, Sr., partner of Debra Ruble; Bernard, partner of Bamby Spence, all of Upper Bern Twp.; and William, husband of Stacy (Reimer), Hamburg; daughters: Deloris, wife of Richard Chaffier, Telford; Lillie, wife of Norman Seaman, Robesonia; Rose Lesniak, Upper Bern Twp.; and Tina, wife of James Adam, Sr., Strausstown; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was awaiting the impending birth of a fourth great-grandchild.
Ervin was a lifelong dedicated farmer. He was committed to serving others and the community. Ervin was a member of Frieden's Church, Shartlesville; member and former president of the Shartlesville Lions Club; member and former master of the Shartlesville Grange #1512; member of the Blue Mountain Senior Citizens; member and former trustee of the Shartlesville Fire Company; previously served as a trustee of the Farmer's Home Administration for 18 years; member of Berks County and PA Farm Bureaus; and was recently inducted to the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame. He enjoyed going to the Leesport Market and attending the Country Jamborees held at the Central Berks Lions Hall. Ervin was a frequent patron of Blue Mountain Family Restaurant where he always enjoyed Manny's pancakes.
Services will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon at Frieden's Church, 28 Wolf Creek Road, Shartlesville. Burial will follow in Frieden's Cemetery, Shartlesville. A viewing will be held on Friday 7:00 to 9:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg and at the church on Saturday 11:00 am to 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Frieden's Church, for sanctuary restoration, P.O.
