Obituary for Helen A. Wanner (Hoffman)

Helen A. (Hoffman) Wanner, 96, of Shoemakersville passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 in Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest. She was the wife of Harold L. Wanner, died December 24, 1997.
Born in Perry Twp., she was the daughter of the late Milton R. and Mary Ellen (Kershner) Hoffman. She graduated from Perry High School, in 1936. She was a member of Zion’s Lutheran Church, Shoemakersville. Helen was employed as a cafeteria worker at Perry High School and later worked at Hamburg Area High School. Helen enjoyed volunteering. She was assistant to the camp director for Blue Mountain YWCA Camp, Hamburg for a few summers. She worked as a dietary consultant for Headstart Summer program with the Hamburg Area School District for a few years as well. Helen worked part-time at the former Werner’s Dairy Bar, and Kuzan’s in Shoemakersville. Helen was a former Sunday school teacher, she was a choir member at Zion’s Lutheran Church, and she volunteered as a seamstress at Topton Lutheran Home.
Helen is survived by two daughters: Janice H. Wanner, Corning, NY; and Sharon L. (Wanner) wife of Gregory S. Muntz, Macungie. She is also survived by two grandsons: Conor and Devin Muntz. She was predeceased by a son: Gerald D. Wanner, died November 1958. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Laura Hoffman, Pearl (Hoffman) Hess, Charles Hoffman, Lester Hoffman, Mary (Hoffman) Starr, Elsie (Hoffman) Balthaser, Mark Hoffman, and Paul Hoffman.
Services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:00 AM from Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 354 Zion’s Church Rd., Shoemakersville, PA 19555. Burial will follow in Zion’s Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held Sunday, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, PA 19526, and Monday from 9:00 to 10:00 AMin the church.
