Obituary for Edward C. Fischer

Edward C.  Fischer
Dr. Edward C. Fischer, passed away on July 30, 2015 at the Reading Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Noni Fischer to whom he was devoted for nearly 53 years of marriage. He resided in Reading, PA with a second home at the Landings in Savannah, GA.

Ed was born and raised in Edinboro, PA. He is the son of the late Theodore and Doris
(Gilbert) Fischer. Ed is survived by a sister, Rosemary Fischer Humbles, wife of James Humbles, and nieces Keri Hilliard, wife of Jason and their children Matthew and Micah of Live Oak, FL, and Jennifer Page, wife of Ernie and their children, Logan and Abigail who reside in Madison, FL.

Ed attended Houghton College in New York. He was a member of the Army Medical Corp and was stationed in Hawaii from 1958-1961. He studied pre-med at the Pennsylvania State University, and earned his MD at Temple University. Ed completed his residency in Radiology at the Reading Hospital. He joined West Reading Radiology Associates in 1968, and went on to train many Radiology residents through the years. Ed was active in the Eastern Radiological Society for many years, and served as Treasurer from 2004-2007.

After retiring from his practice in 1998, Ed and Noni traveled extensively, visiting every continent, including Antarctica, which Ed described as their “most interesting trip”. Ed was an accomplished photographer and captured many treasured photos of his friends and travels through the years. Ed loved music, food, and golf. He and Noni golfed at courses all over the world.

In addition to his family, Ed leaves behind many friends and colleagues who will miss his smile and love. He will be remembered as “a true gentleman”.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Cross United Methodist Church – 329 North 5th Street, Reading on Thursday, August 13 at 6 PM.
