Obituary for Donald J. Seidel

Donald J. Seidel, 76, of Windsor Twp., died Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Jane D. (Fox) Seidel. They were married October 23, 1965 and celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Born in Windsor Twp., he was a son of the late Arlan R. and Verna E. (Seip) Seidel. He was a member of Zion's Lutheran Church, Perry Twp. He graduated from Hamburg Area High School in 1959. Donald worked for his family farm in Windsor Twp., during and after high school. He then spent 10 years working for Berks Products, and finally worked for 27 years for Mid-Atlantic Canners, Hamburg "The Coke Plant" retiring in 2005. Donald was an avid sports fan attending most sports at Hamburg Area High School. He was also an Eagles, Flyers, and Yankees fan. Donald coached little league and babe ruth baseball in Hamburg for many years. He played over 30 years of fast pitch softball for numerous teams in the county, winning several state titles. His baseball idle was #7 "The Mick." Donald's pride and joy were his grandchildren. He attended all of their sports and scholastic events. Donald could always crack a joke and brought humor to anything he did. Donald loved to read any books about Lincoln, the Civil War, or World War II.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Jeffrey D. husband of Joan M. (Shollenberger) Seidel, Windsor Twp., and Duane J. husband of Tina R. (Dudeck) Seidel, Harding, Luzerne County; two grandchildren: Tyler J. and Brandi R. Seidel, Windsor Twp.; two brothers: Harold M. husband of Ruth Seidel, Windsor Twp., Paul R. Seidel, Shoemakersville; and his twin sister: Dorothy J. Seidel, Frackville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport, PA 19533. Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hamburg Area School District, ATTN: Aaron Menapace 701 Windsor Street Hamburg, PA 19526 in memory of Donald.
