Obituary for Donald R. Miller

Donald R. Miller, 80, of Shoemakersville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 6, 2017 in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. He was the husband of Christine P. "Peggy" (O'Neil) Miller, who died on August 7, 2013.
Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Albert and Fannie (Reppert) Miller. Donald was a 1954 graduate of Perry High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Donald worked as an inspector for twenty-nine years for Carpenter Technology until retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville, where he was a former President of the church's joint council, former Deacon, and former choir member. Donald was also a former secretary/treasurer of St. Luke's Cemetery. He was a life-member, former secretary and engineer of the Shoemakersville Fire Company. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and was a Phillies and Eagles fan.
Donald is survived by his children: Scott D. "Bud" Miller, husband of Wendi (Mundis) Miller, Ephrata; Lisa M. (Miller) Hoffert, fiance of David Zawada, Shoemakersville; and Mandy K. Miller, Shoemakersville; three grandchildren: Jay Zeigler; Lauren, wife of William Haring; and Ben Miller; and two great-grandchildren: Ellie and Luke Haring. He is also survived by one brother: Nevin A. Miller, Fleetwood; three sisters: Arlene (Miller) Leese, Muhlenberg Park; Jean (Miller) Dietrich, Kutztown; and Carolyn (Miller) Balthaser, Bernville; and his companion: Jean Cooke, Leesport. Donald was predeceased by one brother: Harold Miller; and two sisters: Miriam (Miller) Evangelista; and Pauline (Miller) Klee.
Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Wednesday 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
